The aim of an eyelid lift is to improve the aesthetics around the eye area and on the face as well as to provide a more alert look and remove excess skin that impairs the field of vision. This sometimes contributes to the disappearance of a feeling of heaviness in the eyelids that is often felt after the procedure.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. An important step is the marking of the skin that needs to be removed, which requires a great deal of experience and extreme precision. The upper eyelid lift is performed in such a way that the scar lies within the upper eyelid crease. During the operation, it is important to stop even the slightest bleeding in order to avoid postoperative bruising and swelling. It is important to know that an upper eyelid lift only removes excess skin. The shape of the eye and, above all, the position of the eyebrows are not changed by the procedure.

A lower eyelid lift is usually performed in combination with an upper eyelid lift. The incision for a lower eyelid lift is made 1-2 mm below the lash line. In addition to removing excess skin, a lower eyelid lift usually involves tightening the round eye muscle and removing or repositioning the fatty tissue that causes bags under the eyes.

Based on our experience and excellence, we have developed the so-called artis signature eyelid lift. Here we combine surgical eyelid lifting with the Mopheus8 system, deep microneedling with radiofrequency and PRP injections.

After the operation, you can significantly support the healing process by taking it easy physically and cooling your eyes regularly for the first few days. The healing process is usually problem-free and largely pain-free. After 5-7 days you will have your first check-up and the stitches will be removed.

General risks such as redness, swelling and bruising are normal and subside completely within a few days. Infections in the area are very rare as the face is very well supplied with blood. Initial numbness and hardening in the area of the scar are also normal and usually disappear completely as the procedure progresses. A feared complication is the removal of too much skin, which means that it is no longer possible to close the eye completely. This is usually due to a lack of experience on the part of the surgeon. Although very rare, complete blindness due to post-operative bleeding must also be mentioned at this point.

We perform eyelid lifts on patients of all ages. The decisive factor for performing an eyelid lift is above all how the patient feels and the degree of discomfort caused by excess skin and bags under the eyes. An eyelid lift is one of the smallest possible procedures with the best possible result.

Depending on lifestyle (smoking, diet, sun exposure) and hereditary factors, the results of an eyelid lift are permanent. If excess skin forms around the eyes again as part of the ageing process, the procedure can easily be repeated.

In most cases, you will be socially acceptable again after a week.

Once the wounds have healed completely, which is usually after 7 days, you can apply make-up as usual. You will notice that applying eye shadow in particular is possible again without any problems.

Showering is permitted again immediately. However, care must be taken to ensure that the wounds on the eyelids do not come into contact with water for 7 days.

Due to the region in which the scars are located (in the eyelid crease on the upper eyelid or in the area of the lash line on the lower eyelid), they are almost completely invisible after complete healing. We will also provide you with special creams to support scar healing.

In the first year, sun protection with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50) is essential. The scars are very sensitive to sunlight during the healing process.
