When will you be able to return to work, when can you start exercising again, and why do your breasts get smaller in the meantime? An honest account, week by week.

Most patients are able to return to work after 3 to 4 days. You should refrain from exercise for 4 to 6 weeks and wear a sports bra for 6 weeks. We will assess the final results after about three months.
Recovery after autologous fat breast augmentation occurs in two areas at the same time: the breast and the donor sites. This surprises many people. The breast itself usually hurts less than expected, while the areas from which fat was harvested tend to be more painful.
What's written here is the standard procedure. Your personal plan will be determined during your follow-up appointment.
You'll go home wearing compression garments over the incision sites and a sports bra. Keep both on, even at night.
A feeling of tightness in the chest, noticeable bruising, and swelling in the abdomen, hips, or thighs. A pulling sensation when standing up. Slight oozing from the injection sites on the first day.
Rest, drink plenty of fluids, and sleep on your back. Short walks around the apartment are good; they help prevent blood clots. Take pain relievers as prescribed.
No pressure on the chest, no strenuous bending over, no heat. So no baths, saunas, or tanning beds. And no nicotine.
Most female patients with office jobs return to work after 3 to 4 days. For physically demanding jobs, it’s best to plan on one to two weeks.
You can drive again as soon as you no longer need pain medication and can move the steering wheel without hesitation. This is usually the case after a few days.
Swelling often doesn't peak until the second or third day, not immediately after surgery. So if things look worse two days after the procedure than they did the evening after, that's to be expected and doesn't mean you're taking a step backward.
Important during this phase: do not put any pressure on your chest. The transplanted fat cells are in the process of connecting to the blood supply. That is exactly why you should sleep on your back and wear a bra without underwire.
Now the swelling and bruising are visibly subsiding, and for the first time, you can see how things are progressing. Expect your breast to become smaller during this phase. This is not a complication, but rather the planned reduction of the tissue that did not take.
Continue wearing compression garments and a sports bra. Take a break from exercise for a total of 4 to 6 weeks, including yoga and upper-body strength training. Light walking is fine starting in the second week.
Hard lumps that feel rough to the touch may form at the puncture sites. They usually resolve on their own. Lymphatic drainage can make the process more comfortable.
The guide " Experiences and Results After 1 Year" describes how the volume develops over the following months.
The procedure will be complete in about three months. The volume achieved will be permanent, because the healed fat cells are body tissue with normal blood supply.
At that time, we’ll see you for a final checkup. During that visit, we’ll decide together whether you’re satisfied with the volume or whether a second session would be advisable. We’re deliberately waiting until now to ask this question because it can’t be answered reliably beforehand.
From now on, only one thing matters: The transplanted cells behave just like the rest of your fatty tissue. Significant weight loss will also reduce the size of your breasts.
Three things are measurably costing you volume. All three are within your control.
It constricts precisely the smallest blood vessels that the fat cells need to connect to. That is why we only perform surgery on non-smokers, and why patients must continue to abstain from smoking even after the procedure.
Tight underwire bras, lying on your stomach, heavy backpacks. Wherever tissue is compressed, blood flow is reduced.
Dieting during the first few months can undermine your results. Keep your weight stable until you see results.
Contact us immediately if you experience one-sided redness accompanied by a sensation of heat, a fever above 38.5 degrees, sudden swelling on one side only, or pain that gets worse rather than better despite medication.
These symptoms are rare, but they should be evaluated. A phone call costs nothing, and we’d much rather you call us than wait and see.
Everything else, such as tightness, pulling sensations, bruising, hardening, and fluctuations in volume, is part of the normal course of the process. The findings from later imaging tests have also been clarified: these include autologous fat and breast cancer.
You can find all the details about the procedure itself on the page about breast augmentation with autologous fat.
Typically 3 to 4 days for office work. For physically demanding work, plan on one to two weeks. The key factor is not so much the breast as the site of the incision, which causes more discomfort at first.
After 4 to 6 weeks, and gradually. This also applies to yoga and upper-body strength training. Going for walks is allowed beforehand and is even encouraged.
Lie on your back for the first few weeks. Any pressure on the chest impairs blood flow and thus the healing of the fat cells. You may lie on your stomach again only when we give you the go-ahead.
About 4 to 6 weeks at the extraction sites, and the sports bra on the breast for 6 weeks. Both should be worn at night as well.
Yes, and that's part of the plan. Some of the fat that's injected doesn't take hold and is broken down. That's why we intentionally inject more than we intend to keep in the end. The results are visible after about three months.
After about three months. Before then, the volume fluctuates due to swelling and the breakdown of cells that haven't taken hold. At the follow-up visit, we'll discuss whether a second session is advisable.
